The file on the right is what it all boils down to. A simple, relatively small file that contains everything I know about my family and it's history. Are there errors? Probably. Should I broaden my scope of families I am looking at? Maybe. Do I know if all these people existed? Definately.

If you haven't heard, the geneology world is big and very active. So big that a universal file format named "ged" has been created and widely adapted. There are a host of programs out there that use it. My favorite is "Brother's Keeper", since it's cheap shareware and lets you get started, with no restrictions, as soon as you download it. You can find lots of other programs at download.com if you don't like Brother's Keeper.
